Who are we
In the eastern Dutch countryside of Twente between the towns of Borne and Almelo lies the parish village of Bornebroek. The “ Brooker Muzikanten ” (Brooker Musicians) come from this beautiful region.
History
Originated in 1970 as a local brass band to liven up carnival and other festivities in the village with a few notes of music. “Heidewitska vooruit geef gas” was the first song that these musicians were proudly able to play together after which they craved for more.
This brass band comprises of 14 musicians at the moment and has during recent years evolved into a mature, fully-fledged and successful brass band. The Brookerkapel is a tight-knit group where age doesn’t play a role. Young and old, prove time and again that this group can create a good atmosphere, entertainment and listening pleasure for their audience.
Our Music
The present repertoire contains original Egerland, Bohemian and Czechoslovakian music but we also play modern folk music and hit songs. We are the “slightly different band !” During the past few years a lot of energy and enthusiasm has gone into working at developing a quality programme. Thanks in part to the professional leadership of our conductor Laurens van Rijn a band has been created that we can be proud of.
The principal importance is the fun of making music as playing in the band remains a hobby for all of us which we hope to continue for a long time to come. The highlight was the performance in 2018 in the Allgäu in southern Germany where we gave a concert at the top of the Buchenbergalm. The local population and visitors were full of complements regarding the manner in which we played. We are therefore also regularly to be seen performing at company parties, concerts and ‘Fruhschoppen’ as well as other festivities.

Fifty years Brookerkapel 1970-2020
The Brookerkapel from Bornerbroek will have existed 50 years in 2020. Cause for celebration in the village! It is of course rather unique that a small village such as Bornerbroek still has a brass band (orchestra). The Brookerkapel is loved by the various hierarchies within the population of Bornerbroek and surrounding areas, from young to old. Music is a connector in a village and it is the language with which everyone can communicate. We would therefore very much like to celebrate this anniversary grandly with all the inhabitants of Bornerbroek.
